You will notice that there is no real maintenance on the vehicle for the first two years
in terms of the filters, brakes, plugs, etc. VW has engineered the car to make it to
the 30K mark and then the owner picks up the real tab. Everything else in between is
fluff, ie., oil changes and other fluids (windshield, coolant, brake fluid), which are
all low cost topping up type of things. The dollars are higher when you replace filters
(air & fuel). You might want to do some of the maintenance yourself. I do all the oil
and filter changes myself. The only thing I rely on the dealer for are things related
to hooking the engine up to the diagnostics equipment, if there's a problem. Otherwise I
avoid the dealer and other repair centers like they were the plague. I've seen to many
times, including most recently when my father had his Westfalia Camper serviced, where
they tightened the oil drain plug so tight he couldn't get it out and the bolt was
rounded to the point where it had to be replaced. Anyone who does that on an oil change
is a monkey not a mechanic!
