Warranty - Canadian Perspective?

I appologize for revisiting this topic....

I'd like to make some performance mods to my GLX but I REALLY don't want 
to screw my warranty.  I've read the warranty threads in the news group but
nothing from a Can. perspective so I thought I'd call two VW dealers here 
in town:

First Dealer said that "if something goes wrong with the car that is related to
the mod then it *MAY* void the warranty".

The second dealer I called said "tampering with anything voids the factory warranty 
and the dealer would distribute that knowledge to any and all VW dealerships".

Varied opinions to say the least!

What gets me is I read in these lists that some US dealerships make performance 
mods and continue to honor the warranty and some are ready to rake you over the
coals.

I'd like some advice from Canadian owners on their performance mods/warranty 
dealings as well as some Washington State owners.  If the Vancouver dealers
are going to screw me over, perhaps a quick drive south would be the answer.
