dont know if its the same, but my drivers side lock simply BROKE.  it has a
very weak end, at the inside end where it works the lock. this is apparently
another of those common VW things.  if yours is not broken, the lock cylinder
will stay in...check by turning the key and pull the whole key and cylinder
gently. if it comes out, its totalled.  ottherwise, i would recomend going
into the door anyway and looking...you may just have a linkage piece off,
which could deteriorate.  if you wanna know how to open the door panel, email
back, i just did it last night for a noisy window, so its fresh in my memory!
