     Well, I have a '94 Passat GLX (VR6) with 116,000 miles.  I commute 122 
     miles each day and have noticed no problems other than wearing tires 
     and brakes out.  The engine just to be run long.  Change the oil every 
     3000 miles, every third oil change run Techtron through the gas one 
     tank prior to changing oil and don't beat on the car until the engine 
     has warmed up.  Your car will last a long time.  We just sold a '89 
     Golf with 165,000 that has run great and prior to my Passat I had a 
     '87 GTi 8V that had ~180,000 miles at trade in.  The GTI engine 
     compressed out within ten pounds for each cylinder and within 15 
     pounds of new engine spec.  I think these cars were meant to be 
     driven.

        In a way I try and "save" my Jetta by going easy on the miles some
months.  Just wondering how many miles people put om their Jettas or Golfs 
on a yearly basis.
