They shouldn't, these covers are inexpensive, but not cheaply made they are 2 
layer, breathable synthetic fiber and should not scratch the car or damage the 
paint. I could see leaves or mud etc. under the cover scratching so caution must
be taken before placing the cover on, and any good wax would protect the paint. 
At least that has been my experience.

will the cheap covers do any damage to the paint ? (minor scratches?) 
I also have the problem with these trees ...
