All this ignitition talk is making me think about my 8 week old Jetta 
GT.  About a week ago I could not turn the ignition to the on 
position.  I removed the key and tried again, this time I could get 
the car started.  At the time I thought that the steering wheel was 
turned so that it was locked, preventing the ignition barrel from 
turning.  After seeing all the postings, I am going to keep a close 
watch on it.

I have owned a number of VWs and have never had a problem with the 
ignition key.  Maybe they switched to a cheaper lock assembly?
