To the person who asked about the Neon ACR,
The question posed about the ACR Neon (from the Jetta mailing list?) made it to the Neon mailing list. I have been a VW person my whole life having owned 3 GTI's and one VR6 Corrado; so my point of view should be representative of your frome of mind.
The ACR is a great car. A recent survey of Neon owners conveyed the following:
The Neon is a great value, especially the ACR.
The Neon has some quality control problems that are hit-or-miss.
Chrysler dealers are a BIG problem. They aften do not do satisfactory work.
(sounds like some VW dealerships I know)
About 90% of Neon owners would buy the car again (high percentage).
The ACR is much like a 1984 Jetta with fully independent suspension and a suspension kit. Needless to say, the handling is really great. The ACR goes for about $14,000 with A/C and cassette. That is the allure of the car. Great handling and good power for less money than a VW. Simple.
Now, quality and build are another story. The VW wins there. This goes back to the old question, "How much money do you want to spend." Note also, that a 1995 Neon Sport can be had for about $8000 now. What is a 95 Jetta worth used?
I hope this sheads some Chrysler light on the VW crowd,
