headers

with all this intake and exhaust talk around, I thought I'd bring up the
subject of headers and the vr6.

seems like VW DID do a good job on the stock exhaust , or the
aftermarket people just need to work harder, in anycase,do aftermarket
headers yeild any increase in power? or are the VW ones already so well
designed that its not worth it???

I think we are close to finding the best intake/exhaust combo for the
vr6, or at least we know the recipe:

- -coldest air in (most power)
- -high flow air filter (most cfm)
- -smooth path into/out of the block (most laminar air flow)
- -headers designed to help evacuate exhaust gasses (better combustion)
- -exhaust/muffler (perfect mix of backpressure for torque and flow for
HP)

seems like the mod'ed stock airbox keep's air temp down, anyone try
putting a heat sheild around the airbox for even cooler temps? how about
those hella front air intakes?

K&N seems fine for high flow in the box.

porting & polish must add ponies by smoothing out the ports

headers?? don't know

exhaust - from what I hear, junking the stock exhaust sounds like a
waste of money just for a few extra ponies - IF that- suitcase removal,
I might just try that, but can it be put back as easily as it was taken
out?
