'84 Golf GTI

I am looking for a used cheep car so I can put up my Jetta GLX for the
winter. I ran across a '84 Golf GTI and I was wondering if anyone could
tell me, were there any inherent problems with that year. I had a '79
Audi Fox and a '80 Rabbit that had multipal electrical problems and rust,
dose this Golf fall under the same situation?
What engine dose this GTI have?. . . a 2.0L?
I am open to suggestions.
