     Jay I would suggest waiting to atleast 5K before changing the oil for 
     the first time.  Jetta GLX sounds like a nice college graduation gift.

Mine is due for a 3k Oil Change and I was thinking about doing it myself.  Do I 
need any special tools at all?  Just to let you 
know, I just graduated from college and all I have is a screwdriver and a 
butterknife =)
