Re: Neuspeed Jetta

The P-flow just sits in the engine compartment and draws it's air in
from all directions and the air is heated by the motor. The factory
airbox draws it's air from the side fender, there is a hole in the
side of the fender and a pipe that runs from the fender to the airbox.
So all of the air that is drawn in is fresh, unheated air, from the
outside. Swithching to a K&N filter element porvides the same flow as
a P-flow but the air is entirely cool fresh air from the outside,
(unless you live in L.A. where the quaility and temp of the outside
air is questionable). I learned the hard way, I did buy the P-flow
and after 1.5 years with it, I became tired of the noise and convinced
that the heated air outweighed the benefits, of it's flow increase,
consequently I had to spend more money to get an element. For
resources I note that, as mentioned before, nuespeed doesn't even use
their P-flow on their project car, everyone I talked to at New
Dimensions uses an element rather than a P-flow, and multiple postings
in the r.a.m.vw.w NG against it. I am not aware of any archives but a
DEJANEWS search of the topic should pull some up. There have also
been NO published dyno results of an increase of power with a P-flow
alone. The previous is all of course my personal opinion based on
conjecture that I have read and should not be taken as Gospel. I
never mean to preach, but unfortuately I have a problem of talking
     (typing) too much.

Ps. it has been oftly quiet out there, peple must actually be working
     today.

I'm just curious because I'm thinking about getting a PFLO. Is the discussion
of the pros and cons of PFLOs archived anywhere? Why would the PFLO take in
WARMER air than your configuration now? Aren't they drawing it from the same
location in the engine compartment? Do you have some type of an AIR COOLER in
your airbox right now?

Thanks,
Jay
