Williams Scores 24 in First Tournament Game

At the Portsmouth Invitational Tournament NBA tryout camp in Virginia, Nate Williams started off with a bang by leading his team with 24 points in the opening game of the tournament. For an additional story, go to collegebasketballnews.com.
As all the NBA GM's, scouts and observers from Jerry West to Larry Bird watched, Nate Williams hit 10-of-15 field goals for 24 points to lead his team to a 90-76 win in game one of the event that features 64 of the top college seniors. His next game will be Friday night at 7 p.m.
The 6-11 Georgia State senior also had nine rebounds and one assist in thte sterling start as Coaches Mike Perry and Lefty Driesell attended the Portsmouth, Va., tournament.
Williams is a two-time first team All-Atlantic Sun Conference star who scored 1,222 points and grabbed 540 rebounds in his three seasons at Georgia State. He led the team to two 20-win seasons, including a 20-9 senior season.

The Portsmouth Invitational Tournament (P.I.T.) is the first postseason camp for the top seniors to shine in front of NBA, NBDL, CBA and foriegn scouts and officials. The 64 seniors will use the opportunity to impress the NBA and European scouts. The P.I.T. was known for showcasing the small college players like Scottie Pippen, Dennis Rodman, Dan Majerle, Tim Hardaway and John Stockton. The followinig is a look at the eight teams that will begin play on Wednesday.
