Re: [Celtics' Stuff ] Mihm will get more time.-Herald
I think what Carroll is saying here (relative to the rebounding problem and
Hunter) is that Hunter is going to the pine for the rest of the season and he
is going to increase Mihm's minutes. He is going to start Walter but Mihm will
be his relief along with Blount's relief. Those three guys will share the two
spots. The problem with this is that Mihm has a problem staying on the court
with fouls and I'm not sure he plays that well in the power forward spot with
Blount. They seem to have a problem between them figuring who has who. I would
have rather stayed with Hunter to start the halfs for a total of 14 minutes a
game but still upped Mihm's minutes by reducing Walter's minutes to around 20
and playing Mihm and Blount together for around 14 minutes a game. Mihm would
then get his other 14 minutes backing up Blount.
The other thing Carroll is saying is let the point guard and specifically
Chucky bring up the ball and run the offense to cut down on the turnovers.
Hopefully, he specifically has called out PP for this and has requested him to not
start any drives unless he is below the free throw line.....

<< Carroll focuses on boards

John Carroll has taken stock of the Celtics during this unusually long
break between games, and it's likely he will alter the rotation a bit
to address some shortcomings.
``I talked to the team and kind of gave them a state of the union
as far as I was concerned - where we are, what we're not good at, what
we need to improve, what we need to do,'' the interim coach said. ``And
probably the two biggest things that I saw are our rebounding, which
has been a problem all year because we're 27th in the league in
rebounding, and our turnovers.''
``Since Chucky's been here,'' Carroll said, referring to point
guard Chucky Atkins, ``that (latter) number has dropped. But those are
the things that we've emphasized: rebounding the basketball and taking
care of the basketball.''
The rebounding issue looked to be improving strongly after Brandon
Hunter [news] was put into the lineup, but the rookie has had some
problems on offense, and now Carroll is looking elsewhere for glass
assistance.
``I think I need to get Chris Mihm some more minutes and see if we
can get some better rebounding from him, because I think that he's a
little farther along than maybe Brandon, in terms of offensively,''
Carroll said. ``So I'm kind of committed to trying to get Chris in with
Walt (McCarty) and Mark Blount [news] and see if we can get those
three guys to help us in our rebounding.
``I think Brandon will be able to help us in some games down the
stretch; I just don't know if I can count on him to do as much as is
needed here in these last 11 games. I thought he was a nice shot in the
arm, and he may have to do that for us at some point, in some quarter
or some half, and especially if we have a team that's just really
killing us on the glass. But I think that Walt and Chris understand
some of the other concepts offensively and defensively a little
better.''
Hunter, Carroll said, is on the right track.
``I think he's already made a lot of progress this year,'' Carroll
said. ``I mean, that fact that he's able to play in NBA games and get
stuff done tells me that he has a bright future.
``I think that Brandon has a long way to go, but I think he has a
bright future because he has a skill. He can rebound the basketball.
And I think in the NBA now, if you have a skill - block shots, rebound
or score - you can play.'' >>
