RE: random things make you say Hmmmm

Jim, being the stat machine doesn't necessarily mean one is sublimating
the ego, it could also mean one is feeding the ego. One could have said
the same things about Antoine Walker in terms of the stats he put up for
the team but Walker still had the need to dominate the ball to the
detriment of the offense.

Tonight Pierce played like a star should play. He gave up the ball when
the situation mandated it and he looked to score when the situation
presented itself. He rebounded well, as he generally does, and he
defended. He played within himself and he played intelligently. If he
can do this consistently, then he is worthy of being labeled a star and
is the kind of player that the team can build around. But he needs to do
it consistently.

With respect to his shooting ability, I don't find 39 percent from the
field including 30 percent from three point range particularly great and
the fact that the shooting percentages have been going down over the
past several years is even more troublesome.

Ravi, If Pierce wasn't 2nd on the team individually and aprox 25% of
each games assists along with being 2nd on the team in rebounding while
also drawing the most defensive pressure from the other team, I would
worry about him not being able to sublimate his ego. But he is. I
believe Pierce is a team player all the way. Sure he has an ego, the
best do. Give him a system to play in. Give him some teammates who can
play ball, like Atkins and Welsch for example. Give him a teammate who
draws a double team.

Yes he over-dribbles and I yell for him to pass when he brings it up the
court instead of giving it to the PG, but when the money is on the table
all of his teammates want him to shoot the ball. He is a smart player
with great shooting skill, very good rebounding ability and better then
average passing skill. If your question is when does he get "smarter",
it happens as the team around him gets better. He can do everything
possible to make teammates better, but that doesn't mean they are up to
the task, yet.
