Re: thoughts on Westphal?

I will bite, at this point I do not care who the coach is as long as he can come in and imediately command respect of the troops and is on the same page as Ainge. X & Os to me are not as important as a coach who can take advantage of and develop the players on hand instead of a guru of a particular defensive or offensive system.

I am sure Ainge has a handfull of names he is considering. In listening to him defend to Ordway on WEEI the other day as to why he did not get his "own" coach at the very beginning instead of hiring Obie, he pleaded something to the effect of "who is that person who would have been HIS coach at the time?" Good question for speculation at this point seeing I did not get a single impression that Carrol was even being considered beyond this year. By the way this works against us in the short term because Carrol must know this and is coaching to win for future opportunities vs Ainges short term goal to play young ones extended minutes thus ensuring better ping pong ball potential. I do however, like the winning and teaching that Adkins is helping with because I think it is important for Banks to see what impact a true PG can have to a team immediately. (another story as to tank or not)

For me this will be Ainge's second chance at the most important decision to help bring into fruition Ainge's vision. He needs a coach he can trust and partner with. Deep down I think we all knew Obie was not that guy but how could Ainge just comming in jetison him? In retrospect he should have. But now he has a chance to rectify that decision.

I trust in Ainges ability to evaluate NBA talent, I think this is a strength of his. He has made the team younger, Bigger and more athletic and he has a mid level exception plus 3 draft picks to play with going forward. At the end of the year there is no threat to lose any of the C's core talent with only Blount as an exception if you want to count him as a core talent for the Cs. So to sell the vacancy to prospective coaches might not be as hard as we on this board and Boston media in particularthis may think it will be. Also if you add being in the weaker East a new coach has the potential to show great improvement over this year which would should add to the attractiveness of coaching the Cs.

Let the speculation begin, Go Celts
