On we go
First, I want to remind you people in mourning for Obie is that he wasn't
fired. HE QUIT!. Danny wanted him to continue but Obie couldn't do what a good
coach is supposed to be able to do, modify his style. I guess he was a one-trick
pony....
Second, please remember that the team that was on the five game winning
streak (after losing the previous 5) also had a healthy, contributing Vin Baker on
it. It is real convenient like the Church Lady used to say when you project a
championship with that team that you forget about the previous losing streak
or the fact that Vin likely would have fallen off the wagon on that team
also....
Third, Bob Ryan is so off his game in his article today. While PP isn't
playing as well as he had in the past, he was the only player in the East that had
been named the Eastern Conference Player of the Week twice so far this year.
He definitely deserves to be in the All-Star Game. And to say ". O'Brien didn't
want to coach just anybody, and he surely didn't want to coach Davis, a
player for whom defense and hard work are alien concepts." This wouldn't describe
the player that we have seen since he has come here.
Fourth, while the local media and a few crazed posters seemed to back Obie
and his approach, it would seem that there are plenty of respected former
players like Tommy and Cooz who weren't on-board with Obie's MO....
And lastly, so what. Didn't Obie reach his Bird's three year expiration date
anyways?....
For you short-sighted ones, we have some good examples of what can happen
when you go with a youth movement with the Jazz, Bucks and Nuggets. You give the
guys a chance and hey, they just may perform. You can also turn out like the
Bulls but the Bulls also don't have PP....
The Cs will continue on. You will see more time for Mihm, Hunter and Perkins
and less time for Walter and Blount. We have had two major injuries in Baker
and Raef that totally defines this year as a developmental year. So let the
development begin and not waste it. If the Cs do well and make the playoffs,
wouldn't it have been a shame that players like Walter, James and Blount would
have been getting that playoff experience instead of Banks, Hunter and
Perkins?....
