If they play a game and nobody watches, does it count?

Bleah to ABC.

They had an opportunity to score lots of cookie points with the fans
today. The Celtics play the Nets at 1pm today--as it happens, during a
break in New England's football frenzy. But they'd scheduled the Mavericks
and the Kings at 1pm.

This meant that FSNE, YES, and NBA TV couldn't show the C's game.

Get a clue, ABC. Absent some of the more devoted Antoine Walker fans,
people in New England would prefer to watch their own team. You could have
set up a regional telecast--as has been done in other cases. East of the
Mississippi gets Celtics/Nets, the other half gets Kings/Mavs. Better yet,
you could have stopped pretending that people out here really care about two
WC teams playing when there's an agonizing battle for playoff position in
the EC.

You'd think that with TWO major news stories accompanying the teams, it
would be a natural to broadcast--the Nets are in the process of being sold
and moved; and the C's are once more reshuffling the roster in the wake of
Vin Baker's suspension. New Jersey just had a horrific road trip and would
like some solace with a decisive win. Boston would like nothing more than
(metaphorically) stuffing a basketball down Byron Scott's gaping maw.

Alas, we're not going to see what--knowing my luck lately--will be a great
game.

Bleah.
