He's still listed today under staff on their website http://www.dfw.com/mld/dfw/contact_us/contact_list/newspaper_staff_np1/
with the address below, which is probably where the article picked it up from, so it's not that he's history. Which means the bounce might mean it's just a website typo being perpetuated.
first initial last name @ the paper is standard for most papers - I've used it as a best guess with success before, and a lot of times it will work even if the reporter has another email at the paper they give out to the non-general public.
