RE: [Celtics' Stuff ] "It's not only shortsighted, it's obstinate."-Globe
Kim, I may be wrong but wasn't JJ a rookie when he was traded to
Phoenix? Wasn't that in 2001-2002 the year the Celtics went to the
Eastern Conference finals with Rogers and Delk coming over in that
trade? I thought O'Brien was head coach that entire season because he
took over for Pitino midway through the 2000-2001 season. I probably
should check the facts but this is what I recall...

'Fraid not. He was a rookie 2001 -2, which was Pitino's last
season/Obie's taking over part way as interim coach. There was about a
month overlap before he was traded by Wallace, but most of his time in
Boston was under Pitino. Best Kim

Kim, I think JJ was a rookie in O'Brien's first full season as head
coach. - Ravi

It's also inaccurate and cheap shots. JJ and Billups were of course on
Pitino's watch, not Obie. Blount's 40 min games have been relatively
few and almost all since Obie left, with Walter's even fewer and ditto
on timing. Nor was Marcus only playing 10 min a night. While Ainge
himself, after Obie left, said that Perkins would not see much more PT
this season because he was developing but not really ready. And while
I'm at it, everyone with the hindsight is best comments about playing
Hunter seems to be assuming that he could have had the game he did the
other night if he'd gotten those minutes earlier in the season. Not from
what I saw when he did play, and I don't get me wrong - I like Brandon
and was enthusiastic to sign him out of summer league where he showed
some of the same faults he did in limited minutes earler. As I've said,
probably too many times before and not like it's convincing anyone <g>,
in game PT is not the only way to develop young players, and clearly!
Hunter has been developing through practice, etc.

Now this is a headscratcher. How can Danny say this after he put Carroll
in
charge? Did Carroll not read the memo? Sure, Hunter played a lot last
game but
that was the first time. Although he starts, Carroll has always
minimized
Mihm's minutes with the perfect example of the game before last where he
had 10
rebounds in the first half and then played minimal minutes in the
second. I
believe Banks only played 5 minutes in the last game and I think we will
continue
to see that. And what about Kendrick? How is he supposed to play when he
is on
the injured list? I assumed that GM was in charge of that or is it the
coach?
If it is the coach, then Carroll definite is in the obstinate category,
preferring Stewart or Kendrick. I'm sure after Hunter's coming out party
that Danny
is feeling validated and wishing his coach would put some time into
Kendrick
also.
So I don't know why Danny is saying this in lieu of what his coach is
doing.
Sounds like another disconnect in the Danny/Obie fashion. If Danny is
Danny
"REAR" Ainge, then Obie was Jim O'Binstant with Carroll now following in
his
father's footsteps....

<< "Another key to the vision is a greater emphasis on developing young
players," said Ainge, defending himself against O'Brien's army of
supporters. "I feel like players like Joe Johnson and Chauncey Billups
should be able to develop. One of my biggest concerns, as much as I
like Walter McCarty and Mark Blount, was letting them play 40 minutes
against Kenyon Martin while Chris Mihm, Brandon Hunter, and Kendrick
Perkins sit. It's not only shortsighted, it's obstinate. And not
playing Marcus Banks more than 10 minutes is unproductive to our
vision."
So there. O'Brien is out and interim coach John Carroll has his
marching orders. And Danny continues to take the bullets while the
Celtics play themselves out of the playoffs and into the lottery over
these last 23 games. >>
