I think your confusing the comfort of being accepted for what you are, with
striving to be the best you can be.

Your old mirror/friend may smooth your rough edges but, in the end, did it
really help you be your best?  Or just allow you to pretend you did?

Why settle for failure when you have the ability to "work" to improve?
Better to have loved and lost, then never to have ... .

And all that jazz.  (References to "you" were not directed at you, Egg.)
