Max's Retirement

To those that are interested here is the info:

The Boston Celtics would like to announce that they will honor Cedric Maxwell by raising his jersey number 31 to the rafters of the FleetCenter in a halftime ceremony on Monday, December 15th against the Minnesota Timberwolves. The ceremony will be marked by tributes from Celtics management and Celtics legends. Celtics Hall of Famer and Fox Sports New England analyst Tom Heinsohn will host the ceremony.

Max's number 31 will be the 22nd number retired by the Celtics and will join the numbers: 3 of Dennis Johnson; 33 of Larry Bird; 32 of Kevin McHale; 35 of Reggie Lewis and 00 of Robert Parish on the same retired number banner.

Cedric enjoyed a stellar eight-year career with the Celtics, which saw him average 13.7 points per game and win NBA Championships in both 1981 and 1984. The highlight of his Celtics tenure was the 1981 NBA Finals in which he led the team with 17.7 points per game and recorded 3 double-doubles in the six game series. Max put on a show in Game 5 of the 1981 series scoring 28 points and grabbing 15 rebounds as the Celtics took a 3-2 series lead against the Houston Rockets. For his efforts Max was named the 1981 NBA Finals MVP.

Maxwell currently ranks in the top 10 in many statistical categories for the Celtics. He is the Celtics all-time leader in field goal percentage, having shot 55.9 percent in his eight years with the club. He also ranks ninth all-time in free throw attempts and free throws made, having shot 2,738-for-3,496 during his time with the Celtics.

So come out to the FleetCenter Monday, December 15th and join the Celtics as we honor one of the franchise's all-time greats by raising Cedric Maxwell's number 31 to the rafters.
