Eurobasket 2003

Eurobasket 2003 starts today. Of course, it's not being shown in the States,
not being nearly as interesting as the Rucker league and WNBA. Scanning the
rosters for ex- and near-Celtics, I see that Bruno Sundov and Josip Sesar
didn't make the Croatian team, Potapenko refused to play for the Ukraine, but
Songaila is playing for Lithuania and Moiso is playing for France. Of the other
Euro NBA players, France seems to have the full complement of NBAers (Parker,
Moiso, Tariq Wahad al Hussein/St.Jean, Pietrus and Diaw). Gasol and Nowitzki
are also playing, but Ilgauskas and Sabonis are not. Both NBA Turks are
playing. Divac, Milicic, Radmanovic, Rebraca and Cabarkapa all declined to play
for Serbia & Montenegro, or perhaps mistakenly reported to the Yugoslavian
team camp, only to find that it has been abandoned. Rasho isn't playing for
Slovenia and Kukoc isn't playing for Croatia, but Giricek, Planinic and Bagaric
are. What's amazing is that ALL FOUR splinter nations of the former Yugoslavia
have made it into the final 16 that play in the Eurobasket. And half of their
stars aren't even playing. If reunited, it would be some team (if they didn't
kill each other first).
