Plus, lots of fouls are called from attempted swipes at the ball when held overhead.  Those are some of the ones where there is a clear slap on the arm.

How much taller are you than the guys you're playing against? That's part of the point with being a *big man* doing it - it doesn't get swiped or pulled away because you're already bigger and you've made the ball even 'taller'. It's out of reach.

a coaching question:  if you keep the ball over your
head, how do you keep it from being swiped or pulled
away unless you have hands like Sonny Liston?  I have
to tuck it under both my arms when i get it.
