+Jiri Welsch Draft Capsule+
---------------------------

VITALS: 6-7, 208, Olimpija Ljubljana (Slovenia)

OVERVIEW: Welsch is considered one of the top prospects ever to
come from the Czech Republic and he played for five years
professionally overseas. Welsch averaged 15.5 points and 1.6
assists last season for the Slovenian club, Olimpija Ljubjana.
Welsch is a prolific 3-point shooter and his 6-7 frame has
impressed numerous scouts. Welsch still needs to learn the
nuances of the point guard position but he shot 65% from
the floor last season with his club team.

LIKELY DRAFT POSITION: Mid-to-late first round. There are a lot
of clubs in the 18-23 range that need point guards. Welsh is
holding a general workout in San Antonio for interested clubs.

COMPARATIVE UPSIDE: Jalen Rose

COMPARATIVE DOWNSIDE: Jeryl Sasser

ROLE PROJECTION: Key reserve, future starter

POSITIVES: Welsch can play both guard spots equally well. He's
got a quick first step and is a very good mid-range shooter.
Welsch's versatility is an asset for a club that has a small
shooting guard, because Welsh can guard his backcourt mate's
taller opponent. His versatility also creates mismatches on the
offensive end.

SHORTCOMINGS: Welsh lacks NBA 3-point range that a 2-guard
needs. He has not played the point guard position in two years,
and although he can run an offense, he will not create a lot of
opportunities for teammates by breaking down defenses.

WHAT THEY'RE SAYING: Welsch's stock is really rising. He's
definitely a first-rounder. anonymous European scout.
