RE: Jay Williams Isn't Walking Through That Door...

Actually Miller did play real poorly for the Clippers this year. I would
prefer a low priced guy like McGinnis who ran the Clips better last year. We
should have went after Troy Hudson.

Much as I salivate over Ray's proposal to bring Andre
Miller to town (last year be damned, put Miller on the
Celtics - where he should have been all along, if not
for Pitino's Vitaly brainstorm - and he could help the
C's get to the finals), I can't imagine the Clips
actually being stupid enough to do this. Even if they
don't want Miller around, don't you think they'd try
to get something more for him in a sign-and-trade
with, say, Utah or Atlanta or Golden State? Eric's
only real attraction as far as LA might be concerned
is as an expiring salary slot next year. Needless to
say, if Ainge could pull off this miracle I'd take up
a collection to erect his statue in front of the Fleet
Center.

There's another Clips FA mentioned in Marc Stein's
ESPN column who actually, as I thought about it, is
kind of intriguing: Eric Piatkowski. Now wait. Danny's
talked about adding more three-point shooters, and the
Polish Rifle is one of the best, a career 40% shooter
on treys. It would certainly help keep defenses honest
to have a guy like Piatkowski waiting on the wings;
he's much more consistent than Walter. On the other
hand, Piatkowski wouldn't do anything for Ainge's
stated goal of getting more athletic; and he
contributes virtually nothing when it comes to
rebounds, steals, assists, etc. Piatkowski is an
old-school specialist, and it remains to be seen if
teams will spend on those kinds of guys like they used
to. If O'Brien's offense remains the same, though,
Piatkowski's athleticism won't be as great an issue
because the team won't be running. Anyhow, I wouldn't
put the need for a shooter as high as our need for a
rebounder/shotblocker and a PG, but if Piatkowski
would come for short money ... maybe unlikely, but
it'd be worth a phone call.
