Examples of teams renovating successfully by utilizing youth are rare,
making Boston a unique example. The Celtics missed the playoffs from
1995-96 through 2000-01, and the major difference was two key
acquisitions.

''There are a few players who can come along and are probably good
enough to turn a team around,'' Heat general manager Randy Pfund said.
``You might get a Paul Pierce and Antoine Walker like Boston, and all of
a sudden, you've got a playoff team. But that doesn't usually happen.
There are so few special ones out there.''
