Re: [Celtics' Stuff Starting to get excited by clippings

I am hopeful that Ainge has concluded that he can keep the status quo but
with some tweaks. You keep the coach, Walker and PP and the general offense.
However, you cut PP and Walker's time down to 33-35 minutes a game. To make
up for the lack of offense, you install a uptempo game with a quality veteran
point guard. The goal is to beat the Nets and we need to add quality depth,
athleticism and a point guard who can take the pressure off the big two and
can make the rest of the team better players. I would go after Payton and
Miller as hard as I could and give up the second pick and EWill to get it
done if necessary. Then, the draft pick(s) become depth players we wouldn't
have worry so much about developing them because the point guard will
naturally bring out the best in them....

Pavel in the middle, Varejao backing up Walker with Baker playing both spots
seems like a lot bigger team than the one that just got swept....

As for the rookie point guard case, it just seems we don't have time to
develop a point guard. Walker will be into extension territory when we get a
solid contribution. Maybe Hinrich is more pro ready as a senior but I would
much rather get a veteran for that spot and draft depth with our draft
picks....

I really don't think we are that far away with this team. Trading Walker is
too great a risk at this point. Look how both Detroit and the Nets went out,
spent the big money and got players to fill holes and solidify their finals
run (Billups and Rogers) and we went the other way and saved money. Now it is
our turn to get the best point guard available and fill the hole. If we try
to do this any other way, this Ainge thing was nothing but hype...

This, of course, assumes that Obie will actually play these guys and cut the
dynamic duos minutes down, something that is against his nature...

My assumption right now is that Ainge will draft athletes but I am hoping he
doesn't pass on Pavel.
