"A point guard or a rebounder, but not both"

The problem is, the C's have (at least) 3 major needs
and only two shots to fill them. Free agency may offer
some help, but given the line-in-the-sand on the
mid-level exemption, the draft looms large. The C's
need to land at least one solid contributor out of the
gate.

I wouldn't be unhappy with either of the two mock
drafts that have been bandied about (Pavlovic/Banks
and Collison/Barbosa) - I'm probably more interested
in the latter possibility, because I see a big man as
a greater need than a shooter and because I don't
think Banks is a long-term answer at the point.
Barbosa might not be either, but he sounds exciting.

But I really hope the team won't get too homed in on
particular players this early, because I do think
there's likely to be "significant slippage." Is
somebody like Jarvis Hayes a better pick than
Pavlovic? Is David West a better choice than
Schortsiansis? That's what they pay Ainge to figure
out, but I sure hope he won't rely too much on Leo and
Wallace, given recent draft history.

I'd prefer to see the C's go for established players
with a track record rather than someone like Badiane.
Even if it means you miss out on someone spectacular
down the road, the flameout potential is high, and we
really can't wait forever for somebody to contribute.
At this point a modest, steady contribution from
somebody like Collison or Gaines would be better than
what we've got now.

I wouldn't read too much into the owners not
mentioning Pavlovic or a shooter-type player, if
that's the direction they're really wanting to go in.
They probably think they're being clever.
