best part of numbers game....

I love this:

"If it would help the Celtics, and it would help Danny, then it wouldn't
bother me," McHale said yesterday from his Minnesota Timberwolves offices.
"It's not like I'm wearing it. It was a great honor to have it retired, but if
it helps Danny, I'd do it. Now, if it was the previous management asking, I
probably wouldn't."

I've always loved McHale's honesty and humor -- i wish we could have nabbed him but I know he wanted to be back in the MN.

But its great that he said what probably a bunch of ex-Celts felt privately. You have to wonder how this animosity toward Gaston & the BDT played out -- if at all (i.e. missed trades, etc., with the likes of Minn, Ind, Pho, etc.). Makes me feel good though that we have a respected leader again -- an a beloved ex-player to boot.

Sometimes I forget the possiblities we have here with ol' #44 at the helm. Based on the first few months I wouldn't be surprised if Ainge is here for a decade or more (like I see McHale being in MN). And you KNOW that his desire to raise #17 is 1000 times more than Gastons, Wallace, et al.
