Re: Waltah!..forget him..you seen HUNTAH!

First of all, what a difference from last night's game! Absolutely amazing.... Everything was better: the tempo, the shooting, the play of nearly everyone on the Celtics, no Bruno etc. etc.

I will take a 6'7 no handle/no pass/no shot inside monster like Huntah.
That's more the kinda player we need.

I don't see how they can deny Hunter a roster spot after a game like tonight's. DA can't let Obie do that to him, can he? I realize that tonight was an exceptional game for him, but even balancing it out with last night's performance, he's gotta be in the top 6-7 of last year's Celtics.

Last year when I watched the Celts I wasn't even sure I liked basketball.

Honestly..that summer league game vs. the Knicks was more fun then nearly all
the Celtics game..cept maybe when beat Indiana. I am telling you Banks is
gonna make Kedrick 10x better. All he has to do run with him..wow can he push it.
Guy is faster with the ball that almost anyone without the ball.

Sick handle too.. He was just abusing those guys..

I heard how he was supposed to be..when we drafted him and I thought he would
be my kinda player. But wow the guy has exceeded expectations. How the hell
did UNLV suck so bad with that guy on the team?!

I was fairly impressed last night - and that appears to have been a bad game for him in retrospect. Tonight...just unbelievable. The kid was unreal. His 8 TO's attest to his desire to entertain, and that he will - and then some. On the positive side of the scoresheet, he nearly had a triple-double. More importantly, he made Kedrick break out like he has never before and ran the Knicks out of the gym almost by himself. The slick passing, the unreal quickness and speed with which he pushes the ball...Now THAT's a point guard! The Celtics are worth watching just because he's on the team.

And before someone hits me with the "it's only summer league" stuff.

Let me tell you the numbers DO cross over. Guys like Richard Jefferson didn't
play half as well as Banks in the Summer league and he now considered a
"star" by the NBA. Heck they picked him over Pierce.

Yes, it's a summer league game, but he was by far the best player in the gym, at least of those dressed to play. That may sound like faint praise, so I'll go out on the limb and predict that we may have a potential All-Star in Marcus Banks. It may take a few years for him to settle down, but I can't remeber the last PG for the Celtics with this combination of physical ability, PG skills, and competitiveness. There certainly wasn't one in the last 15 years or so. These two picks alone, Banks and Hunter, make DA look like a draft genius, especially considering that we essentially got them with the 16th and 56th picks. I may well be overreacting, but it's a great feeling.

Kedrick - what can you say? 83% shooting, 2 for 3 from downtown. Almost exonerated Wallace for the 2001 draft tonight (well, maybe not quite). Banks is the best thing that ever happened to him. Once he got his confidence, any garbage he threw up went in. He was driving at people, pulling up for medium and long jumpers, and slashing from the wings to finish Banks's feeds. We'll have to see whether that continues into the preseason or whether he goes back into his funk again.
Things are looking up already!

PS On the opposition player of note, Sweetney, Lampe and Vranes didn't look bad, they just were overshadowed by our trio of Banks, Hunter, and Kedrick. While no Nowitzki (yet?), Lampe is definitely not a stiff. The Knicks got a steal. Vranes should be more competent than Bradley in time. Sweetney can play, but Hunter clearly outplayed him tonight.
