Philly Daily News

Philly is much like Boston was in the last two Texas
games, turning the season's momentum around but failing
to get wins. The last five Philly losses were to solid
teams, by a combined 16 points (9 of those v. Detroit).
In the past week or so, they've lost to Indy by one and
beat NJ and the red hot Wiz. After tonight, they have a
tough schedule with mid-week games versus Dallas and
Detroit. The Sixers are Boston's oldest conference rival
by far. Its a game to circle on your calendar, for rabid
fans of both teams. Philly is a city in mourning today,
and the fans won't be in a chirpy mood.

With win in hand, Sixers have some positives

Larry Brown has been trying to get the 76ers, despite
their recent 1-5 homestand and six-game losing streak, to
look at the bright side.

After Saturday night's 88-80 victory in Washington, here
are some arguments to help the Sixers coach plead his
case:

Going into tonight's game against Boston, the Sixers
have taken six of the seven regular-season meetings with
the Celtics since 1999-2000 in the First Union Center.

Their victory in Washington was their first on the road
since defeating the Los Angeles Clippers on Dec. 31.

They're 3-0 this season against the Wizards, having
accumulated 76 points off turnovers in the three games.

At 21-19, they're still the No. 5 playoff seed in the
NBA's Eastern Conference, just two games behind the
Celtics.

Over the last five games, they've gotten solid shooting
from forward Keith Van Horn (37-for-58) and guard Eric
Snow (33-for-52). In the last six games, Snow has
averaged 18.3 points.

They can at least be more optimistic about center Todd
MacCulloch, who has been hospitalized and receiving
immunoglobulin infusions to treat a foot neuropathy that
has plagued him. The initial prognosis was, if the
treatments were successful, he could be back tonight, but
the Sixers declined yesterday to offer an update on the
situation.
