Re: trade idea/wallace

Gene's Walker/Kedrick-for-Grant/Butler idea works
salary-wise, according to Real GM. While I've been
strenuously opposed for years to trading Walker, I
have to admit this one intrigues. Butler looks like a
star in the making and could offset Antoine's
offensive firepower while complementing Pierce. And
Grant, haircut aside, is a stud, a workhorse: he could
make up for Battie's lack of strength and leave Tony
free to roam and block shots. This trade would give
the C's more of a traditional look and free us from
having to rely on Baker and the creaky Long.

That said, Butler is nowhere near the ball-handler
Walker is. He racks up just 2.7 apg (compared to
Walker's 4.3 in comparable minutes), and has a nearly
1:1 turnover/assist ratio. Obviously, Walker is the
main reason Boston can get by without a traditional
point guard. Would we want to see Bremer having to run
more of the offense? Oh, and Butler's shooting
percentages would make people pine for Antoine.

Other problem is, I don't see El Greezo going for this
trade in a million years. One, has he ever done a
trade with the Celtics? Two, I think he sees Butler as
the hope and future, and I don't think he'd want to
bring in "one of the most unpopular players in the
NBA," as Antoine has been labeled. Three, I think
Riley would have absolutely no use for Kedrick
(incidentally, this trade works if you throw in
Shammond instead of Kedrick ... and, Grant/Best for
Walker/Shammond also works, though I wouldn't be
inclined to do that one).

Intriguing to hear of Wallace's interest in Hinrich. I
haven't seen the guy play, but have seen his name
bandied as the only senior likely to be a lottery
pick. I'm happy to see Bremer continue to play
well, but I keep fearing he'll turn into Milt Palacio.
Still, PG continues to be less of a worry for the
Celtics than finding a tough interior player and/or
reliable third scorer.
