I understand that the Sonics will be looking to trade Payton, who has  
expressed desire to go to a contender. Could it be that Wallace took 
Baker  off of the Sonics hand in exchange for the promise of getting 
first crack at  Payton? The Baker trade would then make a lot more sense
and might be  why Wallace says "I don't think the last chapter's been 
written on Vin yet". 
or... 
I'm guilty of a serious case of wishful thinking.
