Re: The return

I was at the game last night. There were definitely boos. It was probably 80% cheering, 20% booing. Although the boos increased as the night went on. In the first quarter, there was a loud cheer anytime he touched the ball. By the 3rd and 4th quarters, there were no more cheers and the boos could be heard noticably.

I was there for pregame warmups also. Antoine came out, signed a few autographs for some kids, and made his way out to the court. Greg Dickerson grabbed Antoine first and did an interview. Antoine also did a radio interview with Max, an interview with Gorman, and I believe one with the ESPN guys.

He spent a considerable amount of time talking with Jackie Mcmullan. Also spoke with Tommy, Lester Connor, Dick Harter, and spent about 5 minutes talking with Tommy's wife. Antoine also seemed genuinely happy to see a number of the regular ball boys, as well as just general fleetcenter staff. That makes sense though. From all accounts Antoine was a wonderful person to deal with and spent a lot of time with the 'little people'. The problem was always his lack of basketball skill, not his people skills.

Marcus Banks also talked quite a bit with Antoine before the game. They were the only C's players to really talk with Antoine. The closest Danny and Antoine got to each other was about 10 feet. Danny spent the entire pre-game warmups talking with Don Nelson and Del Harris. When Antoine came over to talk to Tommy's wife, he was only about 10 feet from where Danny was standing. But the two didn't so much as look at each other, and no words were spoken.

As for the game itself, great comeback win. I still haven't checked the box score, so I don't know what the free throw difference was, but it seemed significant. Amazing that the C's were still able to win despite that. The refereeing was horrible. Did it seem the same on TV? I didn't know if it just seemed bad because I was there and in the heat of everything. Although when I saw the the head ref was Kenny Mauer, I got the sense it would be a bad night. If memory serves, he was the one who called the game last year when Paul got his teeth knocked out by Amare and there was no call. He seems to screw the C's every game he refs for them since then. Maybe he's mad at the reaction he got after that game and that Tommy ripped him after the game.
