I saw a lot of him during the European Championships this fall. He was the 2nd
best (after Jasikevicius) and often the best player on the Euro Champ Lithuania
team (as a reference, Songaila was the 5th or 6th best player on that team).
Macijauskas is a shooter extraordinaire, as his %s attest. His shooting form is
perfect; every time he shoots it looks like it's going in. He made 91 straight
FTs in European club play this season and was perfect (I believe, 38-38) from
the charity stripe during Eurobasket 2003. He's a very smart, versatile player
who'd raise the Celtics basketball IQ considerably, kind of like Welsch. In
comparison to Welsch, he's much quicker and more athletic, and, of course, a
much better shooter. He's also an excellent defender and passer. The main
knock on him has been his smallish size (6-4) for an NBA shooting guard.
However, as Peter May reported in the Globe last Sunday, he will be a hot FA
commodity this summer, and the better Euro-oriented teams like the Mavs, Spurs,
Kings etc. may already have some sort of a wink-wink deal with his agent.
