Clippers' decision partially based on 'character'

LOS ANGELES -- Lamar Odom is free to join the Miami Heat after the 
Los Angeles Clippers refused Monday to match the Heat's offer worth 
nearly $67 million. 

"In the final analysis, the decision was based on issues of character 
and other risks involved,'' Clippers vice president Elgin Baylor said in 
a statement.

Character? If NBA teams (a/k/a whores) bothered to include character 
as a criteria, each team would be reduced to about four players and we 
would never have gotten rid of Bruce Bowen or Adrian Griffin or replaced 
Bremer with Banks. 

Odom underwent counseling for marijuana, not rehab.  He isn't a murderer, 
a pedaphile, a bank robber, a drunk driver... he isn't even as pretty or 
clever
as Martha Stewart.  Had Ashcroft considered him a threat to the NBA, 
Odom would now be serving 60 yrs. to life at Guantanamo.  Odom simply 
enjoys marijauna instead of Bud Lights.  Big deal. The damn stuff should 
have been legalized long ago instead of clogging our prisons with its 
users/sellers/our tax dollars.  

My guess is that versatile SF Odom will be Miami's PG, replacing Best 
and James. Surround him with Brian Grant, Eddie Jones, Caron Butler, 
Malik Allen, rookie Wade, and ace coach Riley, and you have a team 
much more worthy than their present Eastern Division 30-1 Las Vegas 
odds.

Comparing the starting fives, SF Butler is already a better player than 
Williams, Grant is superior to Battie, Odom, no matter his position,  is 
the superior player to rookie Banks.  Eddie Jones is a very good SG, and 
Malik Allen is underrated at PF. They also have bench players Samaki 
Walker, Loren Woods, Rasual (love that name) Butler, John Wallace, 
rookie Wade, and several more players yet to be signed.

Don't count Miami out to compete with the Celts for a playoff birth.
I also think Chicago and Cleveland will give our team a good run. 
But being in a mellow mood today, that is a post for another day.
