what about ...

Can't believe I'm doing this, but for the sake of idle
speculation: ESPN.com story talks about Mutombo's
unhappiness about lack of PT. He may demand a trade
but doesn't realize how low the market is for a
calcifying center with 2 years and $30-some million on
his contract.

So ...

Would the Nets do Deke for Vin?

Neither guy is playing anyway, so the Nets don't
really give up an asset. Downside for them is, Vin's
deal runs a year longer than Deke's, but the C's could
sweeten the deal with a pick, and/or with somebody
like Kedrick, whose salary is needed to balance out
the deal (according to RealGM). O'Brien isn't going to
play Kedrick, but for the Nets he's another young,
athletic stopper type in the Jefferson mold, maybe
somebody who could replace Kittles.

For Boston, I'd sure rather have a shadow of the
former Mutombo than Baker or, really, almost any other
big man on our roster. The only potential downside to
doing this would be if you thought Kedrick was going
to blossom here (highly unlikely - it's probably only
a matter of time until he gets shipped out for a
second rounder), or if Mutombo might sit around the
Celts locker room and cry about PT. Say this for
Baker, he's gone quietly.

I dunno, the Nets might well be able to get a better
deal for Deke. But if Kidd walks, they'll need to blow
up the team, and if they could reclaim Baker's career
... or maybe they'd do this just to stop having to
listen to Mutombo beef.
