Yeah, "health reasons" - Reinsdorf is sick of him (and perhaps making room for
MJ?). Hopefully, Grousbeck & Co.are already starting to feel ill about having
Walrus and Obie around. They can't be so delusional as to think that the
current crew will somehow turn the current Celtics into another Sacramento or
Dallas. (Just think about it for a second: the once-proud Celtics hoping to
emulate franchises that used to be perennial NBA doormats. That's the
difference between having Thanksdad as your owner, and having Mark Cuban or
the Maloofs. )

It's time to clean house. Obie is still chanting the same mantra in the Globe
article by Peter May's about how the Celtics have no chance to win unless they
shoot a ton of threes, even though just the other night it was precisely the
opposite - stopping the barrage of threes and going to the rack - that averted
the blowout against the Kings and nearly got us the win. He'll be muttering the
same thing when he's 90 and playing bingo in a nursing home. May says that this
strategy worked in Obie's first season at Dayton, but "forgets" to mention what
happened afterwards. This is starting to look like Dayton II, and I don't mean
the peace negotiations.

With MJ's latest revelation that Toine won't even listen to him (although
obviously not completely true),what hope is there that he'll listen to a mere
coach? His buddies Hardaway and MJ have been saying the same things to him for
years, without being able to make any sustainable change in his behavior. He's
perfectly capable of playing in the post (the Sacto game), even if he does get
blocked a lot. He can contribute in other ways (yesterday), even when his poor
shot selection results in 3 for 16 "Toine specials". But he just won't do it
regularly. Because that's hard work, it requires a lot of effort, both mental
and physical. It's no fun. All work and no play makes Toine a dull boy. He
likes to shoot the long ball and and, barring some divine or neurosurgical
intervention, that's what he'll be doing predominantly for the rest of his
career. Is it worth it, given his occasional contributions in other areas? I
don't think so. Time to say buh-bye to Toine and his trusty sidekick Obie.
