We Have an Announcement for ABC

Hey Brent Hamburger...

Today was not, despite obvious attempts to describe it otherwise, the
Michael Jordan Concert. There were two teams--the Boston Celtics and the
Washington Wizards--playing a game of basketball. Yet every other word out
of the mouths of the broadcast team was Jordan.

On the rare occasion that you gave that a rest, you waxed long and
excruciatingly about the Wizards' chances at getting into the playoffs,
commenting at least a half-dozen times about how Milwaukee had a more
favorable schedule.

Guess you missed the OTHER story. The Celtics, despite what can only be
described as a miserable March, need one more win to secure a playoff berth
of their own--with five games left.

Oh, was I the first to mention it? If I'd been on ABC TV today, I'd have
been the ONLY one.

Today's "network" broadcast of the game was so one-sided, you should be
getting your paychecks from the Wizards. Pierce scores 40 points Friday in
a comeback attempt against Sacramento--a team that absent the Lakers would
be crowned the Team of the West--and you say nothing. Walker scored a
double double in assists and rebounds--which people have been asking for
all season long--and all you can do is make fun of his poor shooting night,
and pronounce his play disappointing.

At this point, I'm so sick of hearing about Jordan and the Wizards, that
I'd be perfectly willing to relocate them to Vancouver if the Canadians
promise to close the borders and deny them a broadcast permit.

It's not enough to hear this garbage on TNT, I really hoped ABC would at
least attempt to mention one of the two teams playing in front of
them. How blitheringly stupid do you have to be to miss the fact that
you've got a high-energy game which BOTH teams Need To Win that went into
overtime, just to point out, repeatedly, as if we were all outsmarted by
pet rocks, that this is probably Jordan's last appearance as a player in
Boston.

We've heard it before. Twice. So long, already, Mike.

The Celtics were under appreciated by the networks last year, and got no
television coverage prior to the playoffs. This week, in a space of eight
days, they're on ABC, ESPN, TNT and NBAtv.com. But you guys still don't
get it.

Coach O'Brien took a team with (all due apologies to Tony Battie, etc.) no
real dominating inside presence, and made them playoff contenders. Nobody
is dismissing them as potential contenders THIS year.

Then you turn in that inane broadcast, which makes Tom Heinsohn look
positively statesmanlike.

I'm not addressing this to the networks, as I believe they'd pay as much
attention to it as they did to the Celtics themselves, so I get to vent--a
little--here online, and hope that someday, somehow, the network heads are
summarily removed from their dank orifices and given much needed oxygen.

In the meantime, *plllllbbbbbttttttt*
