On the contrary, it is hypocritical. Why? Because, under your
logic, every player on the team other than Pierce should get more
criticism than Walker---but they don't.
It's very simple, really - fans criticize, dislike, boo the players that
they perceive as not playing up to their potential because of stupidity,
selfishness, or laziness... Walker is capable of playing great, smart
basketball, but more often than not prefers to take stupid, crazy shots,
including threes from 5 feet above the line early in the shot clock. That's
why he gets booed a lot. It's the same reason that Pierce gets booed, but
since Pierce does much less of that AND has far more ability to actually
make those shots, he doesn't get booed nearly as often. The fans may boo
the lesser players when they take stupid shots, but they don't boo them for
lack of ability. There are exceptions, of course, but generally fans won't
boo if they see honest effort. There is no double standard for Walker - he
gets treated according to the way he plays.
