Re: The Price of Fear

A bit off subject, but pertinent to your outrage with defense attorneys,
is the case of recently convicted kidnapper/murderer, David Westerfield.
Prior to his trial, his attorney had attempted to broker a deal in which
Westerfield would reveal the location of little 7 yr. old Danielle Van Dambs
body in exchange for a guarantee that he would not face the death penalty.
The deal fell through when her body was subsequently discovered, but the
jury was never told this. So Westerfieldbs lawyer was allowed legally to
stand in court week after week attempting to get this child killer set free
when he knew the man had brutally assaulted and murdered a defenseless
little girl. What if the jury who took 10 days to deliberate, had
found him innocent? Yet, it is all legal.

As for the PIERCE stabbing trial, something is and always has been
btroublesomeb with that incident. So I will say it - it still reeks of
coverup. Coverup of what, I donbt know.

If you recall at the time, it was reported that Pierce and Battie had
previously met this group of rappers and posse and had partied and
quarreled with some of them the evening prior to the stabbing.
Yet that little bit of early info immediately dried up in the media as
the Celticbs lawyers and PR staff entered the picture.

Now not only have several witnesses recanted their stories, but when
questioned by the defense attorney, Paul even testified yesterday that
he was no longer 100 percent sure if Hurston was the guy.

bIn the weeks after the attack at the Buzz Club on Sept. 25,
2000, Pierce picked out photographs of two men he said were
among those who attacked him: William Ragland, 30, and
Anthony Hurston, 33. But on the witness stand, Pierce said he
could not positively identify Hurston.b - Boston Globe

And what is with Prosecutor Pappas never even bothering to ask Paul if
he could identify any of the three alleged perps?

bBut prosecutor John Pappas -- who watched Monday as two of
his key witnesses recanted significant portions of their earlier
grand jury testimony -- did not ask Pierce to identify any of the
three accused men in court.b - Boston Globe

The only good to come out of this is that Paul courageously survived.
But my guess is that Hurston, Ragland and Watson will all walk, Paul will
go on to drive Lance to a padded cell by adding 3.4 additional assists pg
to his repertoire, and we will never know the truth... no pun intended.
