For those using windoze computers, there is a really helpful program that I
use called "mailwasher".  I don't know if it works with AOL.

What it does is check for your email at the server, list it for you and then
lets you choose to have it deleted at the server, bounce it back like your
email address doesn't exist or accept it for download.  It saves me a lot of
time and identifies some virus infected email at the server before I
download to my computer.

It is shareware and has worked well for me.   I have nothing to do with the
company except using their product.
