C's May Sign A Foreign Player For The Last Roster Spot

Peter May
Boston Globe - 9/8/02

'' ... The Celtics still have a roster spot open and GM Chris Wallace,
after Point Guard Black Thursday, is now looking for big people. Hey,
how about 6-foot-9-inch Milan Gurovic, the Yugoslav who killed the US
with three big 3-pointers in the fourth quarter? He's available, and the
Celtics know something about him because he was among the many who
reported to Waltham two months ago to audition for the Shaw's Summer
League team. But Gurovic was injured, and the casting call approach
didn't appeal to him, so he headed back overseas to begin practicing
with the national team. (That's right: Oliver Miller played but Gurovic
did not.) Wallace did indicate he might take a look into the
availability of Argentina's Andres Nocioni, who turns 23 in November.
Nocioni is a key player for the Argentines, but he's also remembered for
a spectacular baseline dunk over Kevin Garnett and Duncan in the 1999
Olympic qualifier in Puerto Rico. Among the familiar names the Celtics
are investigating for that coveted 12th roster spot: Mark Pope, Dean
Garrett , Bryon Russell , and Jabari Smith. How about the Big O? ''I
think we'll leave Oliver Miller alone,'' Wallace said.
