Re:George McCloud

"As soon as I heard that the Wizards had traded for McCloud only to cut him,
I figured the Celts would enter the picture. Why? All the ingredients
arethere: He'll work for cheap, he doesn't have many options and,
mostimportantly, he can shoot the three-pointer.Anyone have any thoughts on
this as we wait for the opener to get here?" -Mark

                                                   ********************
McCloud is a poor mans Antoine Walker. Their games are so similar it's
scary.
The Nuggets even used McCloud as a point forward at times. Problem is he's
also going downhill quickly. He's 35 years old. He has never had a very
good FG% (like Walker), but his 3pt % used to be fairly good. The last 3
years or so it's slipped dramatically. He's never been a very good rebounder
(unlike Walker), something which the Celtics need desperately right now.
I wouldn't do it. It's not like we are looking for veteran leadership (are
we?). Our second team would be slowed down considerably with both Vin and
George. Who would he beat out to get into O'Briens 8 or 9 man rotation?
Sundov? McCloud is not a center and Sundov is the better shooter anyway. I
suppose he could beat out McCarty but I don't consider McCarty in the top 9
as it is.
And if we simply want bodies wouldn't we rather have younger bodies that can
go all out at practice and keep the starters working hard?
