Kenny Could Be Brought Back From The Dead

Sonics cool on Kenny

With the state of the Celtics point guard position in question as the
club prepares to begin the regular season, there is word that last
year's starter, Kenny Anderson, could be reacquired from Seattle at a
huge savings.

The Celtics, however, have shown no interest. They sent Anderson, Vitaly
Potapenko and Joseph Forte to the Sonics for Vin Baker and Shammond
Williams in July, but Anderson hasn't fit in as well as hoped as Gary
Payton's backup. According to a source close to the situation, Seattle
would part with Anderson and has discussed paying $6 million of his
$9.185 million salary as a buyout. (They could not pay that much in a
trade.)

That would mean Anderson would need to find a club willing to pay the
rest. Or if he wanted out badly enough so he could play more minutes, he
could play for as little as the $1 million minimum for a player with his
NBA service time. Such a forfeiture isn't unprecedented. Erick
Strickland gave away some $2 million last year when he left a guaranteed
deal with Memphis and landed with the Celtics for the minimum.

Anderson has been getting limited minutes with the Sonics and has been
bothered by back and shoulder problems. The coaches there are said to be
disappointed with his progress in picking up the offense.
