Perhaps the most encouraging off-court news is in the
progress of injured swingman Kedrick Brown, who is
expected to miss from 4-6 weeks with a severely sprained
right ankle.

"He's riding the bike, which is a good sign," O'Brien
said of Brown, who also took stationary shots from under
a basket following Wednesday's practice.

But don't underestimate the impact of Brown's absence,
now that O'Brien is attempting to work his rotation into
shape.

``I had Kedrick projected as the first substitute at the
2 and 3 spots, so that's a tough thing to deal with,''
said O'Brien.

(...) After making the typical rookie adjustments, last
year, Brown said he is a wiser, more confident player.

"Last year, I didn't know what to expect," he said. "I
felt kind of blindfolded. But the coaches know what I can
do from practice, and I know what I can do. I just have
to go out there and not try to force anything, but
instead, let the game come to me."

Brown, who is averaging eight points per game in the
preseason, is learning is hoping to contribute at both
ends of the court.

"Hopefully," he said, "my ability to guard while take a
lot of pressure off Pierce, if I'm guarding the
(opponent's) best player. I think I can help the team
that way.
