Re: Bulpett Says Bye Bye Birdy

Distancing himself from the Celts was cowardly. Just because Larry couldn't
have it his way he took his marbles and went home. I loved Larry as a
player, my favorite. As a coach he pissed me off with his attitude in the
Garden. Larry Bird has some issues. And you can't live on your laurels
forever if your getting back into the game. I wish him well.>>DanF

Cowardly? Where does that come from? He just wouldn't go to games when the team was
supposed to lose, and he knew that Pitino was only out for Pitino--at the salary he
got, he strangled Gaston from making any other investments. It's not like the guy
never paid for anything at all since owning the team. Nothing wrong with Bird staying
away. . there's life after Boston.

Bird certainly didn't live on his laurels. He had plenty of money, and wanted to try
coaching. No one says he did less than an excellent job at it, and burned no bridges.
You may not like his attitude in the Garden, and that was because Gaston was insulting
the game of basketball and insulting Red by allowing Pitino to boot him out.

You're not rational about this, Dan. The "CELTICS" he distanced himself from were the
non-fans who sold out for the hype and the ratings. Sold out for one-man teams with
guys like Dominique hired to fill the seats and teach no one how to play together.
You miss Eric Riley and Dwayne Schintzius? Dontae Jones? Chris Herron? How about
Pervis "yawn" Ellison.

These aren't Celtics that Larry could respect. From the top to the bottom. Dumping
Red, Jan, Dave Gavitt, Fox, Wesley and even Sherman Douglas. Why should he watch the
team? Nobody else did.
