Brown's ankle a sore spot

The pros are in full swing, the colleges have just kicked off and the
high schools are right around the corner. It's officially time to begin
indulging your basketball appetite.
-- Boston Celtics guard Kedrick Brown sat in front of his locker
Wednesday night telling the assembled media that his sprained right
ankle was nothing to worry about. Outside of the same injury he suffered
in January, Brown insisted he had never experienced such an ailment and
that's why he was going to finally start taping his ankle for the first
time as a precaution.

According to some of the voices from his past, however, the ultra-quiet
second-year player's most recent injuries might be more of a trend than
he's letting on.

Sam Barham, Brown's high school coach, remembers his star player
spraining his ankle a few times as a prep star, although never enough to
miss a game. And although Brown never taped his ankles in high school,
he and his teammates were forced to wear Stromgren ankle wraps
throughout their entire career under orders from Barham.

Barham also recalled Brown suffering a few ankle injuries at
Okaloosa-Walton Community College, although the record shows that the
Celtics' 2001 first-round draft pick never missed time because of any of
those mishaps. Brown did, however, miss three games with the Raiders
because of a turf toe during his conference tournament.

There is one more tidbit that might put Celtic fans' minds at ease
concerning Brown's imminent comeback: In his first game back from the
turf toe he scored 37 points.
