Balance of Power

Curiously, five of the seven teams at or above .700 are
in the East.

As remarkably, you have ten teams in the East ABOVE .500

Even when the West was utterly dominant, this level of
team strength and depth would have been noteworthy.

We'll see how this thing trends.

Talent-wise, you'd think the West still has 4 of the 5
starters (everyone but Jason Kidd) locked down on the 1st
team All NBA.

And that's not even including MVP candidates like Steve
Francis, Nowitzki or Webber (after Kobe, Shaq, Duncan and
Garnett on the first team).

By all rights, Gary Payton of Seattle (8-2) is
statistically the best and most valuable point guard in
the NBA.

I do think the East is slowly evolving into the
conference of tough defense. And the quality of coaching
is good, led by guys like Rick Carlisle and Byron Scott.
