Though a week-to-month timetable may sound somewhat odd, 
O'Brien yesterday insisted that this is the only way to 
gauge second-year swingman Kedrick Brown's recovery from 
a severe ankle sprain.

``It's similar to Tony Battie's situation a year ago,'' 
he said. ``It's a sprain that was so bad, it bruised the 
bone. It's very tender. You can touch all around the 
sprained area and he'll feel nothing, but you hit that 
one spot and it will make him jump.''

I have not found any news on a fracture, or results of 
MRI. But obviously, if O'Brien knows what he's talking 
about in making comparisons to Battie, this could be a 
half-season or longer injury. I hope not. 

I wish the new owners would just grab Gaston by the 
collar and offer to pay themselves for a temporary 
replacement, even though they won't officially own the 
team until December at the soonest. Or are they the ones 
behind it?

The reality is that we've got an overmatched 6-2 backup 
shooting guard right now. There's a ton of pressure on 
McCarty and Delk to step it up, as well as pressure on 
all the starters to play longer minutes at peak 
efficiency. Its not going to be an easy month, in terms 
of B2Bs etc. Somehow we've got to pull through.

The coach has to tell the players that the Bulls whupped 
a fancied New Orleans team, and came back from 14 and 18 
in the second half to tie or win against Boston and 
Atlanta. All that firepower and comeback energy can be 
negated by a good "playoff defense" calibre team. The 
more energetic and "veteran" defensive team will win 
easily. Its a challenge. Walker, in particular, needs to 
play within himself, not get the Bulls going by getting 
swatted and taking difficult shots etc. We practically 
need ten assists and boards from the guy. We can only 
hope for a maximum concentration, no let up whatever the 
score, and poise/pride from the entire team.
